DAH/O.E. PRESENT SOUNDS BY BOBBY FLAN, DIM PAST, FSIK HUVNX, THE END | RADIO, & TREASURE TEETH, SEPTEMBER 20 for ART DAYS 2014.

Downtown Arthouse and Other Electricities present a FREE experimental SOUNDS showcase featuring broadcast and live performance in a parking lot. SOUNDS is a side-collaboration curated by Emile Milgrim, founder of Miami-based record label Other Electricities, and Thom Wheeler Castillo, co-director of Turn-Based Press, including members of O.E.’s roster (Dim Past and Fsik Huvnx), artist Patricia Hernandez’s project the end | Radio, and local electronic mainstays Bobby Flan and Treasure Teeth.
Two pieces were specifically commissioned for SOUNDS: A Fsik Huvnx composition manipulating vocal recordings by opera singer Monica Camafreita, and the end | Radio live broadcast amplified throughout the lot. The other artists were given loose guidelines as to what their performance could contain (improvisations, studio tracks, field recordings, interactive pieces). Broadcast begins at 6, bands begin at 8.

Downtown Arthouse is home to various artists and artist-run exhibition spaces including Bas Fisher Invitational, Dimensions Variable, Turn-Based Press, and TM Sisters. Located in Downtown Miami, the space is a cultural hub that offers monthly exhibitions, gatherings, and workshops, as well as houses the private artist studios.

OE’s catalog spans genres from dark folk to minimal ambient, glitch-pop to metal and various styles in between. OE’s releases number in the 30’s with a roster including artists from the U.S. (Portland, Seattle, Nashville, Miami and Chicago), Russia, Spain, UK, South Africa, Italy, Norway and Germany.

Sarmoung is the debut release from Miami, Florida's Fsik Huvnx on Other Electricities. Mastered by Edward Adames at 3DVHS Studios, this thickset, richly textured statement is comprised of two side-length suites nearing thirty minutes each and divided into four separate movements.

The music is deceptively simple. Upon initial impact, it could be described employing conservative signifiers like "drone," "ambient," and "ethereal." But upon relinquishing signification altogether, and allowing the sonic stimulus at hand to bloom and tear itself down again in glacially slow cycles of birth and death, trance-like epiphanies are revealed like glowing marble statues unsheathing themselves from velvet casing.

T. Wheeler Castillo designed and printed the artwork at Turn-Based Press for Fsik Huvnx’s Sarmoung tape, which Other Electricities released in April 2014.
